Brentwood Girls Hit the Ice

Second term sport has just begun and for 24 determined girls, the hockey season is officially underway. Each week this group will travel to our local rival, Shawnigan Lake School, to practice on their home ice two afternoons a week - and one early morning practice or workout before classes on Saturday.

Although the season is short, I am confident that the time we spend together on and off the ice will help us all grow as individuals and collectively as a team.

This year’s Captain, Amy P, Mack ‘22 shares this opinion: “The most amazing part about this year's female hockey team is the participation. This year we have the most girls in hockey Brentwood has ever seen, including those who have played competitively for years, retired figure skaters, and those who have only skated for minutes. I am super excited to be able to pick up from where the team left off last season, and to see the team's skill set grow further.”

After our first practice, I can share that the skill ranges from retired AAA players all the way to girls who have never once put on skates, but no matter their history with the game, all the girls share the same level of enthusiasm which gives this program a really special feature.

As we take a look forward at the plans for the season, Lily H, Alex ‘22 says she’s “excited to be on the ice this term” with the hopes of improving her skills.

I want to wish all the girls luck as we head into our season, and thank the coaches in advance for their dedication to our growth as hockey players. I want to give a special thanks to Amy and Emily P who, with their enthusiasm and encouragement, have managed to bring the most girls into the hockey program Brentwood has ever seen.

I know we are all excited to develop our skills and knowledge of the game while also encouraging one another and, most importantly, having a good time.
