Brentwood Girls Glory in The Mud at McGeachy

This past weekend the girls' rugby team took the field in the annual McGeachy Tournament hosted by Cowichan High School. On Friday they played 3 short games against Vanier, Ladysmith, and Semiamhoo losing each by a try or two. Our inexperience was exposed in the early going but the girls learned quickly and our team play became steadily more cohesive and effective. The experienced seniors such as Lucy, Emily, and Andrea provided admirable leadership and example and the other players were ready to follow. The playing conditions were reminiscent of a WWI battlefield, not well suited to our preferred style of open rugby. However the girls learned as they went along and everyone was given the chance to show what they could do. On the Saturday morning we played Cowichan High School Second XV in a full game and won 15-0. The girls played tenacious defense and moved the ball well on attack. Andrea C scored on one #8 pick-up and set up Martina from another one. Ginny R made the most of her 15 mins of fame to race over for the third score. After the game we contacted Proctor and Gamble concerning a Tide commercial but we have yet to hear back...
