Brentwood Fully Engaged!

2 December 2014
Marius Felix
It would be somewhat misleading if I said that this past week at Brentwood is typical, but to be honest, it is not too far from the truth!  On Tuesday, as part of our ongoing mental health education awareness program, the school held a workshop for our students to understand psychosis. This was coordinated by Mrs. Felix. From Wednesday through to Saturday, Brentwood welcomed the top 16 AA volleyball teams from around the province to decide this year’s Provincial Champion. Part of the tournament was hosting all 16 teams for the tournament banquet on Wednesday night in Crooks Hall. Congratulations to Coach Fougner and her team and congratulations to Coach Fougner, Athletic Director Mr. Gage and his assistant, Mrs. Martin, for organizing the event. From Thursday through to Saturday, the Grade 8 class welcomed families and friends to their upbeat and hilarious version of Aladdin, in the old dining room. Also on Thursday, the school welcomed many of our American parents and hosted a Thanksgiving dinner in their honour. After dinner, the Brentwood Arts community hosted “Vision”, a student art exhibition in the Arts building, from 7:30- 9:30 pm.  Friday saw a continuation of the volleyball provincials, while the Senior and Junior Boys Basketball teams headed to Vancouver and Nanaimo for tournaments. From 2-6 pm, the third iteration of Parent/Student/Teacher interviews took place at the school. While this event went on, many of our boarders not involved in interviews loaded buses at 5 pm to enjoy a “Red Saturday” weekend with family and friends locally, or in Vancouver. Saturday was a day of rest for some of those students who remain on campus. A later breakfast followed by quiet time for study or extra sleep will be the order of the day, unless one is a debater. The debating club hosted over 100 guests on campus on Saturday, led by Ms. Steele-MacInnes and Mr. Byrant. Finally, on Sunday, many of our females rugby players traveled to Vancouver to play in the U18 Club Rugby Championship game at the Capilano Rugby Club. Whew!!  Marius Felix, Assistant Head
