Brentwood Earns ISA Silver

6 December 2010
The Senior Boys’ basketball team traveled to Vancouver to compete in the ISA tournament this weekend. As they were our first games of the competitive season, it was hard to know what to expect of this year’s squad. While it wasn't always pretty, the coaches were thrilled with the work ethic and sense of team that was evident over the course of the intense, two-day competition. In pool play, Brentwood opened against the host team from West Point Grey Academy. Early on, we struggled to take care of the basketball and were clinging to a 1 point lead at halftime. In the second half, the team dug in defensively and was able score some easy points in transition. The boys opened up a twenty point lead midway through the fourth quarter and eventually came away with a 76-65 win.

In their second game, the team faced Island rivals Shawnigan Lake School. SLS showed some early season rust and struggled to execute in the opening half. As a result, we built a 42-14 halftime lead and were able to cruise to victory. In the final, we faced a tall, deep and very talented St. Georges team who had yet to be tested in the tournament. The boys gave them all they could handle and our terrific defense earned a 5 point lead at halftime. Though we led by 1 entering the final quarter, the size and depth of St. Georges wore our lads down and, after two key Brentwood players fouled out, we were unable to come away with the victory. Nonetheless, a silver medal at this highly competitive tournament was an excellent start to the season and a testament to the terrific team spirit and hard work demonstrated by the boys all weekend.
