Brentwood Boys – The Best in BC

Thursday, May 30, 2013 -

At the recent AA BC High School Provincial Tennis Tournament, the Brentwood Boys doubles team of Conrad A and Nick M claimed top honours. Both boys are from Vancouver Island: Conrad in Grade 12 from Nanaimo and Nick in Grade 10 from Mill Bay. The lads beat all the other boys doubles teams earning a perfect 10-0 record. “The team played terrific tennis throughout the tournament, defeating some excellent players on the way to their unbeaten record”, said their coach, Mrs. Marci McLean.

In pool play Conrad and Nick beat teams from RC Palmer in Richmond and Sa-Hali from Kamloops. This led to a quarter final match-up with Island rival Lambrick Park. This is where the boys started to gain confidence and momentum winning by 6-2 and 6-3 scores.

In the semi-finals, they were again tested by a strong Okanagan Mission squad but overpowered their opponents by scores of 6-2 and 6-2. The entire Brentwood team was also benefitting from their winning record and advanced to the finals against rival Collingwood from North Vancouver.

The boys won their first match versus Collingwood to set up the final game of the tournament against the only other unbeaten boys doubles team. Both teams were sporting 9-0 records. “It was a high quality match with both teams making great shots. The boys lost their serve to go down 4-3 but then fought back to break the Collingwood serve for a 4-4 tie. Conrad then held his serve for a 5-4 lead. Down 0-40, it looked like the set was going to a tie breaker, but with 5 consecutive points, Conrad and Nick closed out the match 6-4 to claim the top spot and title of “Best Boys Doubles team in BC.”

Well done boys!
