Brentwood Basketball Makes History!

Brentwood's senior boys basketball team made school history, defeating the Cedar Spartans at the AA Island Basketball Championships last night. The hard-fought win qualifies Brentwood for their first ever berth in the AA Provincial Basketball Championships, to take place in Kamloops next month. The win was a difficult one, with Cedar jumping out to a 13-point lead in the first quarter, before Brentwood lost their early game jitters and settled down. Showing what is becoming great team resilience, Brentwood fought back to a 32-31 scoreline in Cedar's favour by halftime. Back-to-back jumpers by Garett Clyne sparked the Brentwood comeback, and the entire team worked hard on the defensive end of the floor to get the team close to even terms. The second half saw Brentwood edge out in front. Scoring came from eight different players, with aggressive play particularly from Seb Kohlmetz and Ian Parry leading the way. These two players were also tremendous defensively, with Parry earning five steals in the second half and Kohlmetz drawing three charges, ultimately forcing Cedar's influential post player out of the game. It must be emphasised, however, that this win was a great example of good team basketball at both ends of the floor and every player deserves credit for their contributions. On Saturday night at 7 p.m., Brentwood meets Ladysmith High School in the Island Final at Ladysmith's gym. Brentwood will be ready!
