Brentwood may have a well-deserved reputation for producing superb rugby XVs and rowing eights, but this year’s sports results also reveal the depth and diversity of our athletics programme.

Back in the fall, Sr. Girls Field Hockey got it all started with a bang by winning their final three games at the AA Provincials and running away (in their kilts) with the consolation trophy. Sr. Girls Volleyball was up next and returned from Provincials with a fourth place finish after winning the Island Championship (where Stephanie T. was the MVP, and Indre S. and Captain Shelby M. were All-Stars) for the 5th consecutive year.

In the winter term, not to be outdone by their autumn sisters, the hockey program strapped on their blades and captured second place at the prestigious Ross Cup Tournament. They also won the senior Shawnigan Showcase game for the 3rd consecutive year. Weeks later, the Sr. Boys’ Basketball team captured a record Bronze medal at the AA Provincials. Ben H. was named to the All Star Team.

Although the weather didn’t warm up much this spring, our rugby, tennis, girls’ soccer and rowing teams certainly did. Sr. Girls Rugby earned a berth in the Provincials and hosted it with class. The Sr. Boys’ Rugby team earned a #2 ranking in the province and left the Championships as Silver medalists. The Sr. Girls soccer players finished 2nd at the ISAs, North Islands, and Islands, and ultimately 6th at the Provincial championships. On the courts, the Sr. Tennis team captured the Island title and also earned Silver at Provincials.

Finally, the rowers, in training since September, got to strut their stuff on the National stage. Claire V. and Deirdre H. led the way by winning the Sr. Double. CSSRA silver medals went to the Boys’ Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+ and Jr. Boy’s 8+ and bronze medals were earned by Claire in the Sr. 1x and the 72kg Boys’ 4+.

That’s nine Brentwood senior sports teams (4 girls – field hockey, volleyball, soccer and rugby, 2 boys – rugby and basketball, and 3 coed – ice hockey, tennis, and rowing) who competed, successfully, at the provincial level or above. Hats off to these athletes and their coaches!
