Brentwood Alumni Take the Stages of Victoria by Storm!

19 November 2010

Brilliant!  One word can describe the Pacific Opera’s production of Rodelinda at the Royal Theater in Victoria. From the breathtaking embellishments of the six singers, to the superb orchestra playing period instruments, to the simple but extremely effective set - this show definitely rated 10 out of 10. In attendance were four of our student opera fans, including Sedef A, Kira C, Sarah K and Grace P with Mr. Newns chaperoning. Although the show was lengthy, as opera’s often can be, it kept everyone riveted to attention through to the final curtain call. The cast included one of Brentwood’s alumni, University of Victoria professor and tenor Benjamin Butterfield, playing the villain, Grimoaldo. Butterfield was utterly convincing in the role and showed his vocal agility in Handel’s demanding score.

On another stage in Victoria, Brentonian Laura McCarthy is starring in The Life Inside at the Belfry Theatre. This play is also a unique piece of musical theatre, created specifically for the Belfry.
