Brentonian Sets World Record

25 May 2012
Malcolm Howard ‘00, in the above picture celebrating his Olympic Gold medal of 2008, rowed his way to a world record at the Lucerne Regatta today. Sitting in 5 seat of the Canadian Men’s 8+, Malcolm and his teammates set a world record of 5:19 for the 2000m course.

Dave Calder ‘96 and Scott Frandsen ‘98, Silver medalists from the Beijing Games, placed second in their heat while Spencer Crowley ’07 and adopted Brentonian Will Dean won their repechage to advance to the semi-finals. Will Dean did not attend Brentwood, but Mr. Brian Carr assisted Will in acquiring full ride scholarship offers to UW and Cal Berkley. Will attended Cal where he had a distinguished collegiate career. Spencer is in his first year with the National team after successful seasons at the Under 23 level and at Cal.

Finals are set for this weekend in Lucerne, an Olympic tune-up for Canada’s London bound crews.
