Grade 11 student Ben H has been selected to play on the Under-17 national team. Initially considered because of his abilities as a lineout forward, he also impressed the selection coaches with his attitude, work ethic, understanding of the game, and overall athleticism. Ben has been playing for two years and is also a varsity basketball player. The U-17 team will tour in California during the holiday season and also travel to England in the spring for the Millfield Tournament which showcases young rugby talent from all over the world.  Ben is following in the footsteps of Brentwood alumni Sean Ferguson '08, Nick Philippson '09, and his brother Will '09 who participated in the Under-20 national team camp held at Shawnigan Lake School this past weekend. This camp is part of the selection process and prepares players for World Trophy Competition which will be held in Russia in May.  For aspiring rugby enthusiasts, Brentwood offers rugby programmes for both boys and girls. Our school has an innovative approach to playing rugby that focuses on identifying, creating, and attacking spaces through skillful passing and coordinated team play which results in a more attractive, flowing style. One of the added benefits of this particular style is a more inclusive game for all body types and a significant reduction in injuries. Brentwood has won three provincial rugby championships in the past two years. Prospective students who are interested in the school's rugby programme are welcome to contact Tony Healey for more information: tony.healey@brentwood.bc.ca.
