Basketball: Senior Boys defend their ISA crown

The senior boys basketball team travel to Vancouver to defend the Independent Schools Association Championship this weekend. Somewhat frustrating for the squad is the fact that St. Michaels University School and St. George's School are entering their Junior Varsity Squads in this tournament. Had these two schools entered their Varsity Squads, the tournament could have been exceptionally competitive. SMU is amoung the top AA teams in the province, having nearly beaten powerhouse Oak Bay High School last weekend and St. George's are currently ranked as one of the top AAA squads in BC. Brentwood is currently ranked in the top ten in BC AA rankings. Add to this mix highly competitve Collingwood and West Point Grey teams and a quickly improving Shawnigan roster that boasts one of the tallest front courts in BC high school basketball, and it appears the opportunity for a top notch tournament has been squandered. Nonetheless, Brentwood is looking forward to the challenges of the tournament and fully understand that avoiding complacency will be a key factor if they are to defend the title won last season.
