Basketball: Island Final Loss has Silver Lining

Facing a Ladysmith team firing on all cylinders last Saturday night, Brentwood's senior boys  lost in the AA Island championship game. It was an uncharacteristic performance from the team, who throughout the season have relied on their tight and relentless team defence, and some valuable lessons will come from this defeat. Despite this loss, what is most gratifying about the weekend was Brentwood's first ever qualification into the Provincial Championships next week in Kamloops. More importantly, the team has the opportunity to address the lessons from this loss in practice this week in preparation for the tournament. Team captain Andre Coquillard was named a second team all-star and Ian Parry was recognised for his excellent play throughout weekend with a first team all-star selection. It must be said, however, that the achievements of this team to date have been based on their team work ethic and mutual respect for each other. It will be these characteristics that will be the backbone of the squad as they enter play at the Provincials next week.
