Basketball Is Back!

When it comes to Brentwood’s term 2 sport offerings, the word opportunistic comes to mind. Of all these different athletic options, basketball is without a doubt my favorite - and has been for quite a number of years.

I have had the pleasure of being somewhat involved in Brentwood’s basketball program since around the age of eight when my dad was the Assistant Coach of the Junior Boys team. From that point on, the sport has remained my favourite to both watch and take part in.

Unfortunately, no competitive school sports were held last school year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving a large number of Brentwood’s students extremely disappointed. Senior Boys Basketball had a phenomenal team that wasn't even able to show off their skills in what was sure to be a season to remember.

Buchannon F, Rogers ‘22 said “The fact that we all get to play games and be a team together is what we missed most. Having the brotherhood is the most important part of being on a team and battling hard each and every time we step on the court is how we achieve that.”

This year, however, competitive sports are back! With two successful scrimmages already completed against Belmont and Shawnigan, Brentwood’s Senior Boys were fired up to get this season officially underway at the annual Kodiak Klassic tournament held at Heritage Woods in Port Moody, BC.

The tourney took place Thursday, December 2nd to Saturday, December 4th and produced a solid result. “The constant improvement from the tournament’s start to finish the boys showed is something to be tremendously proud of” recalled Milan P, Privett ‘24.

With many more games and tournaments upcoming, it is no surprise that the team is fired up to see what success can be achieved over the course of this competitive season of basketball.
