The Grade 8 boys basketball team played their first two games of the season this week and came away with two impressive victories. In their first game on Monday, the team travelled to Queen of Angels school. Playing in a small gym, the boys outran their opposition and played solid defence en route to a 66-25 victory. Top scorers were Joey Robb and Tim Liu, each with 14, and Gavin Spooner with 10 points. In their second game on Wednesday, the boys faced a much tougher opponent from Duncan Christian School in front of their home crowd. The boys started the game strongly and despite a few missed layups went into the half down 18-17. The boys played an exciting second half, anchored by strong defensive effort from Nicholas Ridenour in the post and a commitment to spacing on the offensive end. Brentwood led the game 36-35 until DCS made a game-tying free throw with only 5 seconds remaining to send the game to OT. Despite being disappointed, the team approached the extra period with renewed vigour and held their opposition to only two points as they recorded their second victory of the season, 42-38. Top scorers in the game were Jason Yu with 11 and Tim Liu with 9 points.
