Basketball: Critical Weekend ahead for Senior Boys

Over the past 14 days, Brentwood has established two firsts in their basketball program history. A tournament win at the Brentwood hosted "Countdown to the Playoffs" was followed by a gritty and determined win at Gulf Islands Senior Secondary, the first win in five attempts by a Blake Gage-coached team at Ganges. Indeed, it has been 14 years since Brentwood earned a win at the Saltspring-based school. A solid team effort was highlighted by excellent performances from Andre Coquillard and Ian Parry at both ends of the floor, and a stingy defensive effort from Seb Kohlmetz, helping to secure a good win for the team. Starting on Wednesday against Pacific Christian School, Brentwood begins play in the South Island Championship Tournament. The event boasts four provincially top ten-ranked teams in St. Michaels University School, Lambrick Park, Esquimalt, and Brentwood, along with the massive Shawnigan Lake School squad, who potentially could defeat any of these teams. Many basketball fans predict the toughest AA tournament in recent memory. Tip-off on Wednesday is set for 5:30 p.m. at the SMUS gym. Keep an eye on this site for updates over the weekend.
