From Wednesday March 9th to Saturday March 12th Brentwood’s Senior Boys Basketball team participated in the 52nd annual AA Provincial Championships hosted at the Langley Events Centre. The team was rounding into form nicely coming into the week and that was reflective in the teams’ opening contest against the 14th seeded Hugh Boyd Trojans.

Brentwood entered the tourney as the #3 seed and showed exactly why they were worthy of being ranked near the top with a dominating 90-49 win on Wednesday evening. Player of the game Dylan G, Whittall ‘23 summed up the victory as “a very convincing one that served as the perfect start to an action-packed week.”

The team’s next matchup was against 6th seeded Pacific Academy Breakers in the quarter finals. Led by Captain and Player of the Game Buchannon F, Rogers ‘22, Brentwood’s boys played hard and ultimately came away with a gritty 72-48 win in front of a lively Breakers’ crowd.

As a result of these two wins, the boys were into the semi-finals against longtime rivals Lambrick Park on Friday night. Despite this game not going how Brentwood wanted, the team never gave up and reduced the twenty-five point deficit to a respectable final scoreline that read 85-72 in favor of the Lions.

Last up in provies was the 3rd place game between Brentwood and 9th seeded West Point Grey who were able to upset the #1 seed King George Dragons earlier in the week. This game was a nailbiter as both teams wanted the podium finish and was ultimately won by Brentwood 64-50 with Milan P, Privett ‘24 taking home the week's final Player of the Game award. This win made it back-to-back bronze medals for Brentwood on the grandest stage for basketball in BC.

Director of Athletics and Head Coach Mr Gage had this to say about the team when all was said and done: “I was super proud of the way our team competed at Provincials. We came up a little short against a hot-shooting Lambrick team but being able to bounce back and win a tough bronze medal game shows a lot of character. We are extremely grateful for the leadership and commitment of our Grade 12s and excited to see how much our 10s and 11s will improve for next season. Very grateful that our boys were able to get back and experience the Langley Events Centre and a provincial championship; it was a wonderful season.”
