After a riveting Showcase game, the Varsity Hockey team rebounded in a back-to-back series with Frances Kelsey. The team played on Thursday and then again the following Tuesday. The games were fairly one-sided as Brentwood’s offense showed how explosive it can be.  For those who may have been bored watching the Superbowl, perhaps you should have tuned into Brentwood’s first game against Kelsey. Brentwood went off winning the game, scoring twelve unanswered goals. Brentwood’s offense was led by seniors Haden U, Ellis ‘19, Kirtis H, Privett ‘19, and Blake C, Privett ‘19. Each player had no less than 5 points and 2 goals in the game. Feeding off of Kirtis’ Showcase magic, Haden recorded his first hat-trick of the season.  Perhaps the biggest highlight was the way many depth players stepped up for the team. Cale W, Whittall ‘19, Callum P, Rogers ‘20, and Will M, Privett ‘20 all stepped up and registered beautiful goals. The team’s defense was stellar, limiting Kelsey to a measly 9 shots in the third period. The Game MVP was Mathieu M, Ellis ‘19. Mathieu played a shutdown game and recorded a goal and two assists in one of his best games of the year. Maxton A, Privett ‘19 said the following about Mathieu: “He helps set the tone for the defenseman by taking short shifts, preserving energy, and playing responsibly in our zone.”  Brentwood’s second game against Kelsey was almost identical to their previous faceoff. Brentwood’s scoring was highlighted by the team’s top line as Haden scored another hat-trick, and Kirtis recorded a 7 point game. However, after building on last week's game, Brentwood’s depth continued to be the X-Factor as almost every player recorded a point. Deklon S, Privett ‘20, Cooper H, Ellis ‘19, Callum P, Rogers ‘20 and defenseman Jack P, Whittall ‘20 all found the back of the net to help lead the team to another big win. Our relentless attitude was evident in this back-to-back series, and the Varsity team has now moved to 6-2-2 on the season. Our coaching staff is continuing to lead the team in the right direction, as the team’s focus continues to be on winning the Ross Cup.  The Game MVP was Hadi N, Ellis ‘19. Hadi has been electric as of late, lighting the lamp in his past four games. Hadi’s great hands and quick release have left netminders star struck as he continues to move up the stats board. We can’t wait to see how he looks in his flashy new Sombrero. When asked about his performance as of late, Hadi said “My linemates have been setting me up and it’s making scoring goals way easier. I’m having fun on the ice and trying to do little things right.”  Brentwood hits the road this weekend as the go to Vancouver to play Prince of Wales. The trip is going to serve as a great time for players to relax, have fun and hopefully win a hockey game. Brentwood also has a great opportunity as they get to watch a Sharks vs Canucks game Sunday night. We are excited for the trip, but also for all the good signs we have moving into the later half of the season.  Haden U, Ellis ‘19
