After the school golf season in 2020 was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, everyone has been dying to get back on the course. Brentwood’s golf program is located at the Cowichan Golf & Country Club which is approximately fifteen minutes from the school's campus where pros Scott Catton and Norm Jackson help make the Spring term the best it possibly can be.

This year, Brentwood golf is once again run by math teacher Mr Warner and Deputy Head of School, Mr Sullivan who is new to the program. Both are avid golfers and love to share their knowledge and experience with others. It is nice to see that, despite the wide variety of golfers that make up the program, something can still be enjoyed for everybody on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays every week that school is in session.

Students enrolled in golf have the option of going on the course to play or staying at the driving range/putting green for practice. Most students, including myself, usually alternate between these two which can help create a nice balance between having fun and being serious.

Luckily for us, the coaching that comes with Brentwood’s golf program is phenomenal. From the coaches that the school provides, to the pros at Cowichan, everyone has easy access to assistance whenever they need it.

Golf Captain nominee Ishan V, Ellis ‘21 claims that he is the “best golfer Brentwood has ever seen and that I have gained more and more confidence about my golf game each year I have been with the program.”

Head Coach Mr Warner says that “One of the aspects of the golf program I enjoy the most is watching our talented student golfers share their knowledge of the game with their peers. I give our group full credit for carefully minding Covid-19 protocols at Cowichan Golf Club this year and working hard to improve their games, both on the range and the course”.

The unfortunate part about this year's season is that there is no competitive school season for the serious players. This part of the season is always something I look forward to but there is no doubt in my mind that we will still thrive as a school throughout the rest of the term!
