January sees our 2nd term sports really get into the thick of competition as we have a number of tournaments underway and upcoming including the ever popular Showcase Games versus our friends down the road. All our basketball teams will be competing heavily this month. The new year started with the Senior Boys Basketball team coming back early from the December holiday for a four day training camp and then they opened their league season with a win at Gulf Islands Secondary School. The team played in the Archbishop Carney Tournament in Port Coquitlam over the weekend to be followed by the Victoria Police Tournament this week as a lead up to the always competitive and popular Showcase Game against Shawnigan on Tuesday, January 21st. Mark it in your calendars! They close out the month with the Countdown To Playoffs Tournament hosted here at the school. The Junior Boys have a number of games culminating in the Brentwood Challenge Tournament hosted Friday, January 24th & 25th.
The Girls squads are also at tournaments throughout the month. The Senior Girls were in a Tournament at Wellington last week and at the Gulf Islands Tournament this week before heading to the Shawnigan Tournament the week of January 20th. The Junior Girls play in the ISA Tournament at Crofton House in Vancouver on January 17th and 18th. Follow basketball on twitter @BCSgirlsbball and @BCSbasketball Brentwood’s hockey season is in full flight with 50 boys and girls helping us field a number of teams. After a flurry of games before the break, there is no rest for the squad as we jump right into league games versus Cowichan High School and a trip to the Lower Mainland for a tilt against St. George’s on Friday, January 17th. The competition this month will reach its peak with the annual Showcase Hockey Game versus Shawnigan on Saturday, January 25th. Last year’s contest went to overtime with Brentwood winning in a shootout. This year’s contest promises to be equally exciting. Our rugby players also have notable achievements to report. Aaron H. has been selected to the BC Elite Youth 7s U17/ U18 team that will be competing in Las Vegas at the 2014 USA Sevens Rugby this month along with non-travelling reserves Donovan M. and Nick W. The team is coached by Brentwood's own Shane Thompson. Once again Ciel A.-B. has been selected to the BC U18 Women's 7s team for the tournament along with Brooklyn N. and McKenna H. who have been selected to the Banshees Women’s Development 7s squads. Congratulations to them all!
