The new year is off to a busy start for Brentwood Athletics. Our competitive hockey, basketball and squash teams have moved full tilt into their seasons and early results look promising. Our hockey team has opened its season with a couple of wins over Chemainus and Frances Kelsey and are getting set for their four day tour to Prince George, BC next week. In basketball, our junior boys team moved into January with an impressive tournament win in December already under their belts and they continue to impress with a 2nd place performance at the ISAs in Vancouver. Similarly, the junior girls have also shown nice signs of growth and they too will be off to Vancouver for their ISA tournament later in the month.
The senior girls and senior boys teams both currently sit at the top of their league standing and will be looking to solidify their rankings to position themselves for a nice run in the playoffs. For our squash team, tournaments start to heat up towards the end of January and our students will have a couple of excellent competitions in Victoria.
While the weather this term can be grey, our sports provide students with a terrific outlet and the whole school is looking forward to our Showcase events in both hockey and basketball. The atmosphere in both the arena and the gym is electric and it is a rare experience for high school students to be a part of. For both competitors and fans, these Showcase events are certainly a highlight of the term. This year, our hockey challenge is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 24th versus St. George’s from Vancouver and basketball Showcase will take place on Tuesday, January 27th. We will be livestreaming a number of basketball games this term including the junior boys games this weekend, the Showcase games on Tuesday and the Countdown to playoffs so visit www.brentwood.bc.ca/live for more information. We look forward to another exciting term in sport!
