Squash, basketball, and hockey are the main competitive sports that run throughout our busy second term and all of these programs have enjoyed successful seasons. The squash team participated in a number of tournaments around the Island, most recently at the Pacific Northwest Squash Tournament hosted by Saint Michaels University School in Victoria. Our hockey team has just finished hosting the 15th annual Ross Cup Tournament and all three of our teams represented the school extremely well against some of the top teams in the province. Our girls’ basketball program has had its best season in many years. The Senior Girls finished third in the South Island Tournament and earned their first berth to the Islands in a very long time! The Junior Girls won the Mid-Island league thereby also earning a berth to the Island Championship. Both teams represented the school very well at Islands and the future certainly looks bright for this program. The Junior Boys’ Basketball team hosted the Mid-Island Championship where they played some of their best basketball of the year. The boys lost a tightly contested semi-final game to eventual champion Shawnigan Lake but bounced back to defeat Gulf Islands and capture bronze. Meanwhile, our Senior Boys captured the Mid-Island title for the 6th consecutive year and played some of their best basketball of the season at the Island Championship where they lost a heartbreaker in the third place game to Highland Secondary School from Comox. Brentwood led almost the entire game before Highland came storming back in the final minutes and took the lead with just 30 seconds left. Coming so close to earning another berth to provincials was tough for the boys but they should be proud of the way they played all weekend – it was a strong end to their season. Third term is fast approaching and with it comes a very busy term in sport. We will be closely following all our competitive teams that include Junior and Senior Girls Soccer, Girls and Boys Rugby, tennis and, of course, our rowing teams. Whether you are on the water, the fields, or the courts, it promises to be an action-packed term and we are excited for what lies ahead! Have a wonderful break!
