The Student Arts Council and Arts Faculty can look back on a very successful term. There were several initiatives that brought the Visual Arts up front to students and parents including the inter-house paint competition and Artifacts, Brentwood’s first exhibition of the year in the Centre for Arts and Humanities. Still-life studies based on shoes, grisaille oil studies, and contemporary takes on Renaissance, Baroque and Impressionist works generated engaging conversations between artist and visitors. Our weekly blog Artist of the Week has also profiled both our budding new artists and experienced creators. The Performing Artists from our Instrumental and Vocal programmes were showcased in several events on the Killy Stage in the T. Gil Bunch Centre. The breadth and depth of talent have been the subjects of many complimentary discussions by parent and public audiences. The sold-out public benefit for the local food bank, our Concert for a Winter’s Eve on Friday, Nov. 29 was a testament to the buzz these students are generating in the local community. They put on a fabulous show; their passion for their craft and the audience’s enthusiastic responses created that magical synergy that makes all the hard work pay off. We do not sit on our laurels, however, as an exciting second term anticipates more opportunities to feature our student artists in exhibition and finishes on a high note with the Musical Theatre Company’s production of The Fiddler on the Roof, February 25 to March 1.
