Arts Update

Wednesday, October 07, 2015 - By: Edna Widenmaier

There is something incredibly inspiring to have the students coming back into the studios and performance spaces in our Arts programmes. Their energy, enthusiasm, and talent are the catalysts for excellence. Selected senior students have been chosen as Art Captains, who, in addition to taking leadership roles in their classes, advocate for students at our Arts Council chaired by Will K, Arts Representative for the Student Executive Council.

There will be several galleried shows this year and art students will have their input into selecting the theme for the first one. The introduction of Robotics, Woodworking, and a Beginner Band Programme has been well received. Both Musical Theatre and the Senior Acting play are well into auditions and should be cast soon.

The Senior Play, Carlo Goldini’s The Servant of Two Masters, is a madcap Italian comedy of lovers, lawyers, servants, and twenty-seven plates of meatballs. This Commedia dell’arte masterpiece has been updated to include modern and local references. The Musical Theatre Company will mount the weird and wonderful The Addams Family. This macabre new musical comedy created by The Jersey Boys’ team features an original story. Wednesday Addams has grown up and fallen in love with a young man from a “normal” family. Come meet the family: we’ll leave the lights off for you. Tickets for both shows will soon be available through our online booking.
