Arts Behind The Scenes

1 October 2021

There are many Arts in the third arm of Brentwood’s Tripartite Program and Performing Arts have a big impact on our school’s atmosphere. Some examples of these arts are dance, musical theatre, senior play, and a wide range of musical endeavours. Our Arts Program also contains physical, hands-on arts such as drawing and painting, pottery, woodworking, and photography.

Although these art options seem rather appealing, there’s one in particular that is done and worked at behind the scenes - one that nobody in our Brentwood family seems to consciously recognize - that art is Theatre Production.

With the aid and supervision of Ms Plough, the hard workers of Theatre Pro do their best to help with the Brentwood shows, from setting up microphones (hand held and wired), setting the lighting algorithm (pre-set and live), and setting up the correct sound and volume all for our popular and annual performances.

Ned B, Privett ‘23 describes what it’s like to be in such a unique art: “Theatre Pro is a great way to immerse yourself in different cultures of performances while having fun at the same time”. An Old Brentonian describes the daily atmosphere of Theatre Pro: “Live, full of humour, and relaxed, while also being productive, all contained in a 55 minute period” observed Fin C, Privett ‘21.

Joining Theatre Production as my second art in Grade 11 was a choice that I won’t be regretting. From exploring our beautiful Killy Theatre every Arts day to playing a part in helping Brentwood succeed in their Performing Arts, this unique art and its atmosphere allows me to understand the work and determination put into the annual performances.
