ARTS BEAT
Spring brings blossoms and sun to the campus, a fitting backdrop for our final showcases for both visual and performing arts programs. Most of the music ensembles will have been gearing up for provincial competitions in April, so the end-of-term shows on campus that follow are an opportunity to see these winning ensembles at their best, live in the Killy Theatre.
April 20-22 the curtain goes up!
Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic is a 2015 original play by New York-based playwright Matt Cox. The play is a comedic retelling of the Harry Potter book series by J. K. Rowling, but from the perspective of the Puffs:
"For seven years, a certain boy wizard went to Wizard School. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs … who just happened to be there, too. A play for anyone who has never been destined to save the world, Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic, is a Potter-inspired comedy for anyone who has ever felt like a secondary character in someone else’s story. The play gives you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three new heroes just trying to make it through magic school. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning and loyal rejects with a thing for badgers. Their 'hilariously heartfelt!' (Metro) and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be." - Matt Cox.
Performances run Wednesday, April 20, through Friday, April 22, with curtain at 7:30 pm, and a matinee on Wednesday, April 20, at 2:30 pm.
Tickets are general seating at $10 each, and can be pre-booked through our online ticketing site or purchased at the box office one hour before showtime.
During the April 29-May 1 Brentwood 50th Regatta, visual artists’ work in all mediums will be on display in the Centre for Arts and Humanities in a show titled Unison. The gallery will be open for public viewing from 2-4:00 pm on Saturday, April 30.
Next on the Killy Stage for a public presentation on Friday, May 6, at 7:30 pm will be the Showcase of our Dance Program with numbers in all genres. Tickets are $10 and will be available on the booking site as well as the box office from 6:30 pm the night of the show.
The icing on this confection of performances is our Concert for a Summer’s Eve. Friday, June 3, at 7:30 pm featuring our award-winning Instrumental and Vocal Ensembles. All proceeds will go to the Monday Morning Music Society. General admission is $10. Tickets can be pre-booked online or purchased at the door one hour before curtain.
