Are You Ready for Airband 2014?

29 September 2014

October 18th, when Brentwood will be hosting one of the most entertaining events all year, AIRBAND, is less than a month away! This event allows you to come together with your friends in the house (and some houses might even pair up with their brother/sister house) to bust some moves to some of the biggest hit songs around, or even to some of the oldies!  There are three categories: Junior, Senior, and Mixed. There is no limit of the number of people you can have in your group, but only three acts may be submitted in each category per house; that means nine acts may be submitted.  There will be three faculty judges assessing the groups based on following criteria: lip synching, costumes, choreography, and overall performance. Suggestive lyrics, inappropriate dance moves, and “costume malfunctions” will give you the three big Xs (just like America’s Got Talent) and the air horn sounded by Mr. Felix.  Airband is an event that brings everyone together - returning and new students - for a good laugh. This year’s MC’s will be Damian M, Privett ‘15 & Toby CH, Privett ‘15. During last week’s assembly, the Student Executive Members gave Brentwood a taste of what Airband is like. We shook it off to Taylor Swift’s new song “Shake It Off”.  To prepare, we met twice during our free time to bring all of our ideas together to come up with some awesome choreography. During the process the boys were found to be more into it than the girls, as the boys would go back to their rooms after rehearsal and practice repeatedly, or watch Taylor Swift’s music video to memorize the lyrics. The girls wore pigtails and bright workout clothes, while the boys showed off their guns in their bright neon tank tops.  We are honoured and excited to be able to put together one of Brentwood’s most anticipated events of the year, which leaves people looking back on these memories for a lifetime. New kids, get ready for one of the events that you won’t be able to wait another year to participate in again, and, returning students, be excited to participate or watch one of your favourite Brentwood events.  One! shake the jitters from head to toe, Two! take a deep breath, and Three! LET’S DANCE!  Hope to see all the old and new faces at 7:30pm, Saturday October 18th in the T. Gil Bunch Theatre, where the biggest dance off of the year will be held.  Are you ready for Airband?  Sienna L, Mackenzie House ‘15
