Success on the College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) exams brings many bonuses, including university credit for first year courses and placement into higher courses at most institutions. Marked on a 1-5 scale, the exams are challenging, exposing students to more rigorous material, providing enrichment with an emphasis on critical thinking skills. This year 84 students sat a total of 152 exams with 57% of these resulting in 4 or 5. A grade of 3 on the exam is recognized by the College Board as "qualified" at the Advanced Placement level (and by many institutions that award placement, if not credit, at this level). With 82% of exams taken being a 3 or higher, this was an excellent year for Brentwood AP students. The College Board recognises various levels of scholarship, the highest being the National Scholar Award which is granted to students in Canada who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on five or more of these exams. Joining the ranks of previous Brentwood AP scholars this year were Rona Mitchell, Conrad Park, Catherine Wilson, and Cassandra Yoon. Hearty congratulations to these four and to all 17 AP scholars whose names will be recorded on the Brentwood Academic "Wall of Fame" in the Ross building.
