Another Point for Germany!

15 March 2018

“I love how Brentwood allows the dining hall to have so many different cultural dinners” said Sophie VG, Mackenzie ‘19. “It not only acknowledges the diversity at this school, but embraces it as well.” Could this be any truer? A melting pot of 41 different ethnicities, Brentwood College School is well known for its cultural diversity, and when you pair this with Brentwood’s spectacular cooking staff, what do you get? Amazing cultural dinners celebrating countries all over the world, of course! This was no different for this year’s annual German dinner. On Tuesday March 6 some students generously gave up their free time to help decorate the cafeteria for the German dinner, and on Wednesday March 7, the German students hit the show! Crooks Hall was saturated with lively spirits, lively music, and lively servers as Germany’s exuberant culture was shared with the entire student body. The night consisted of many of Germany’s famous dishes, and while the names may have been difficult to pronounce, the meal was easy to enjoy. This year’s German dinner included Kartoffelsalat, Currywurst, Sauerkraut, Kaiserschmarrn, apple cider, schnitzel with gravy, and of course, German pretzels. “Eating the food from the German dinner made me feel like I was at home again. Dankeschön!”, noted one of our very own Germans Daniel M, Ellis ‘18. Cooked with tender care and intricacy, it was a meal that would most certainly make Alfons Schuhbeck proud! Brentwood’s cultural dinners are just one of the many perks of attending this remarkable school, and the Brentwood community is truly blessed to be able to experience these events. A special thanks to Ms McLean of the Student Activities Council for always organizing the dinners, and for the beautiful cultural decorations that go up for each dinner. A special shout out also goes to the student volunteers who offered to help decorate or serve. Finally, a huge thanks to Brentwood’s splendid food services staff for helping the Brentwood student body experience Germany’s rich and hearty cuisine for a night! Glory C, Mackenzie ‘18
