An Unforgettable Weekend

And just like that, the 50th Brentwood Regatta has come and gone.

At the end of such a busy and successful weekend, there are definitely some thank-yous in order.

Considering that the majority of the current student population has never seen a Brentwood Regatta before, the students must be commended for their efforts in contributing to all aspects of the event, and continuing on a valuable aspect of Brentwood culture despite not having prior experiences to draw from. As has been shown time and time again, this is an “all-in” community: everyone played their part, from the Entrepreneurship 12 food booths to the boat holders. The commitment from this community was incredible to see.

The same goes for our staff, who all played their part as well, and certainly set the tone for our student body. A special thank you to Mr Shadlock and the facilities team, Mr Milward and the dining staff, Ms Arden and the Development Office, as well as Mr Patel and the senior management team for all of their help and support.

Although this Regatta is about so much more than just rowing, we must congratulate all of the athletes, both from Brentwood and from the 18 visiting clubs and schools across North America whom we were lucky enough to host this weekend. This event would not be the same without the dedication and passion for the sport that these rowers have, and it has been awesome to watch them compete and do what they do best on our waters.

We were also very lucky to welcome parents and alumni to campus over the weekend, and we are so grateful for their support of the athletes and our school. This event would not have been possible without them.

After months of uncertainty as to how this event would take place, with the effects of COVID definitely still being felt, it is remarkable that this Regatta was able to be run so smoothly and efficiently. Regatta Chair Spencer Manton has had every possible challenge thrown at her when organising this event, from COVID implications in the buildup, to hellacious weather sprinkled throughout the weekend. Through it all, she has been a calm, steady presence whom we cannot thank enough for her contributions. A huge thank you also goes out to everyone involved in the rowing program here at Brentwood, from Head of Rowing, Mr Carr down to every coach who has dedicated so much time and effort to making this 50th Brentwood Regatta so special.

Over these past two pandemic-interrupted years, there have been many things that our community has missed out on, but none have been as significant as the Brentwood Regatta. This weekend has been a discovery for some and a reminder for others that Brentwood just isn’t Brentwood without the Regatta. Thank you to everyone who has supported this event in any way. We can’t wait to see you again next year!
