Harvesting, picking, planting, weeding, seeding, meeting and eating were the order of the day as the Environmental Advocacy class traveled to the organic farm of Brentwood alumna Robin McDaniel ‘O2 this afternoon.

Kale was culled, tomatoes tugged, apples clutched, strawberries tweaked. Clover and fava beans were planted as cover crops for the winter. Garlic was processed for planting.

Seamus the livestock dog was cuddled, goats embraced, and chickens fed as Robin and her husband Caleb shared the rewards and challenges of organic farming.

After putting their shoulders to the wheel helping prepare the farm for the winter season, with their mouths, hands, pockets and hoodies full of delicious, nutritious produce, the students returned to Brentwood with organic ideas dancing in their heads.

Thanks to Robin and her family for sharing their wisdom, time, generosity, and chocolate cake. Jim Ganley
