An International Online Learning Experience

Being a Brentwood student these days is unique. The international students, in particular, are facing a different way of learning that takes place at special times.

For many Brentwood students, the daily routine is the same as classes start at 8:15am. But as Brentwood is a school with students from all around the world, for many of us it is a really different experience, not only the methods of instruction, but also the time it takes place. As a student from Germany, I am experiencing a new way of schooling at a totally different time: we are nine hours ahead of Mill Bay.

Having classes in the evening is interesting. Of course, there are a lot of positive aspects as you don’t have to get up really early and you can prepare for lessons the whole morning and early afternoon, but it is also very difficult to fit evening classes into the daily schedule.

It is also hard to stay connected with your family as classes do not take place as usual. When parents go to work, or siblings have their classes online at normal times, the international Brentwood students have to wait for their classes to begin.

“As a student from Germany, I’m attending evening school. It is a special learning experience, but it is hard to adjust to. But all in all, I can say that I’m settled into the online learning experience by now’’ Marina S, Allard ‘22 says of her online experience.

As a student from Europe, I would like to express a big compliment to all the people who are in charge of this online learning experience: they did a really good job in providing us learning opportunities. It is really good that the Brentwood community stays connected all over the world in good, but also in difficult times.
