As part of Spirit Week, the first ever Brentwood Interhouse a cappella competition was held at Crooks Hall from 8pm to 9pm on January 28th. Brentwood students and staff gathered on a Saturday night to perform and enjoy the music feast created  by Brentwood students.

Allard kicked off the show by performing “Africa” by Toto, followed with “Paul” by Big Thief as well as “Rich Girl”, two beautiful duets sung by students from Alex-Whittall. Justin S who sang “Paul” thinks Interhouse A Cappella was a fantastic addition to interhouse events: “Getting people to be more open to singing is important, and getting more chances to perform is always good!” said the talented young singer.

Hope-Privett then sang a mashup of “Take a Chance On Me” by ABBA and “Super Trooper” and with “Love is an Open Door” from Frozen. Chloe O, who organized the performance from Hope, said that it was an amazing opportunity for people to gather and explore music by using their own voices.

Mackenzie-Ellis’ mashup won first place in the competition while Hope-Privett placed second, Allard-Rogers placed third, and Whittall-Alex fourth. “It was fun to sing with friends and it was a good experience.” said Genevieve P. “It was also a good way to showcase people’s talents” Emily S from Allard added.

It was a wonderful time for all of us as we basked in the beautiful tunes of the night, accompanied by delicious pizza and other refreshments. It was, no doubt, a successful first a cappella competition, and we are all excited for many more to come.
