An American Dinner Fit For a King (or President)

A walk to the Brentwood caf can often surprise. This, however, was not the case on a certain Wednesday evening, in the second week of April. We knew that the American Dinner was taking place.  Throughout the day’s classes, even the most studious of pupils were observed longingly glancing out of the windows, their glazed eyes yearning for the day’s end to come. For the evening meal to start.  A severe lethargy had set on campus, brought on by a day’s worth of rigorous fasting and the demands of daily Brentwood activity.  We could wait no longer. It was 5:29, and the ants nest stirred. Masses of students headed for the caf. Many ran; many more would have run had every square foot of pavement not been occupied by another student. Carter C,  Rogers ‘18, upon arriving at the caf described the waiting line as “endless”, but we knew we would only have to wait a little more. The line cleared surprisingly quickly and we soon found out what was in store. The menu for the evening was perfect. We were set to feast on fantastic fried chicken, freedom fries and BBQ ribs, with an ice cream bar to put the icing on the cake. It was a feast fit for a king (or a President). We ate and ate until our stomachs could expand no further. After finishing our meals cooked to perfection, we left the Crooks Hall satisfied, happy, and with double the cholesterol. As we retired to our dorms that evening, we knew that such a divine feast would not soon be forgotten. Christiaan dB & Ravi R, Rogers ‘18
