Friday prep is usually quiet. A week’s fun and hard work has settled by then. Students turn on their work mode and start digesting a week’s lessons. However, on October 28th, screaming and applause broke the tranquility of the evening as students dressed up in their inter-house colours and gathered in the Killy Theatre, ready to watch a great show: Airband 2016. Audience members pumped up their spirit and filled the room with excitement. Performers wiped sweat from their foreheads, trying to ease their nerves. They were eager to show off their lip synching and dancing proficiency. The event started with an introduction by the MCs who lit up the evening with spirit and vigor; everyone was affected by the energy flowing in the Bunch. People applauded, cheered and screamed. Following the MCs, the performances astounded the audiences. Ellis junior Ben R danced hip-hop with virtuosity and his back flip raised the event to a peak. The audience was so amazed that waves of screaming continue throughout the performance. Dancers on stage expressed their passion through the power of every movement. It was not only a competition between houses, nor an event purely for fun anymore, it represents a sense of community and a sense of belonging at Brentwood.  In the mixed division, Hope/Privett House had a marvelous performance. The choreography was fabulous and the audiences not only reacted with enjoyment but also burst into laughter. The entertaining element in the Privett/Hope performance became a highlight, and it added another layer of enjoyment to the event.  Airband is also an opportunity for the teachers to shine. Eight faculty members prepared an excellent show. They were wearing cowboy hats and leather boots. The students could no longer restrain themselves on the seats. They stood up to cheer for the hilarious performance. At Brentwood, teachers can not only be instructive and motivational, other aspects of their personalities can be reflected through Airband.  Mr Brent Lee was the head judge of this event, and the result was announced at the end. Students from each house were supportive and optimistic. They know that enjoying the process is the most valuable thing. Thanks to the judges, Mrs. Martin, Olivia B and all of the other organizers. We look forward to Airband again next year. Vivian F, Hope, ‘18
