Advanced Topics in Math

There are a handful of students at Brentwood with a strong interest in math, or who have been doing math above their own grade level, or both.  It would be unfortunate if there were no opportunities for students in either scenario to take higher level math beyond Calculus in Grade 12.  Luckily enough, there is a course option out there that is probably unheard of to many people - Advanced Topics in Math 12.
Advanced Topics is a very interesting course to say the least. Taught by Mr. Prokopchuk, the class is not large in number, this year having only five students. However, the low numbers are not a deterrent by any means, as only a small number of students are even in this boat of wanting an extra math course to begin with, but it also makes it easier to get in depth with the material. “The small group creates a very personalized class, which allows us all to learn at our own pace,” says Maurits F, Whittall ‘20.
The curriculum is made up of university level content, such as in the subject of Linear Algebra, as well as topics from the Calculus BC curriculum, which is not otherwise offered at Brentwood.  It is, no doubt, a challenging course, but it is highly recommended for anyone looking for a leg-up in university math. Having done both Calculus and sections of consequent university courses would be very beneficial for any student going into mathematics, engineering, business, etc.
This year, Advanced Topics has been a solid experience for all of us in the course, and I would highly recommend it for anyone that is at all interested in their academic future in math.
