Academic Update

3 May 2022
Cheryl Murtland, Deputy Head-Academics
We did it! Collective we for this statement.

Thanks to a team of dedicated Brentwood employees and open-minded students, we successfully made the transition to the Woodward Building, Multipurpose Rooms in the Foote Centre, studios in the Centre for Arts and Humanities, and the Asper Music Room in the Bunch for academics. This was no small feat and was made easier by the attention to detail of our Facilities and Housekeeping teams who looked after everything so that we could arrive after spring break and resume classes. A mid-year move is a tricky undertaking and yet, as we have seen over and over again in the past two years, the Brentwood community took on the challenge. Look forward to seeing more images of the new spaces as students continue to learn and interact on a daily basis.

Now that the transition out of the Ross Building is behind us, we look to the next few weeks which are filled with external assessments. Students in grades 10 and 12 wrote the Provincial Literacy Assessment(s) and the Grade 10 Provincial Numeracy Assessment between April 26 and 28. A brief break for Regatta that weekend and then over two hundred students have started writing over 400 Advanced Placement exams (May 2 to May 19)! If your child seems a bit overwhelmed, please remind them to eat well, exercise, and get sleep. It’s going to be a busy few weeks for many, including our amazing Boarding Faculty Assistant Team that invigilates the exams.

Advisors have contacted you to give you an update on your child’s progress in academic classes. We want to be sure that we keep students focused on finishing the year well as the days get warmer and the late afternoon sun draws them to the playing fields. Currently, it’s more rain than sun, but we know it will change. We are looking forward to all that the final months bring our way.
