Abuzz About A Spelling Bee

24 January 2013
This past Friday, January 18th, 24 of our best and brightest spellers joined together for a verbose display of their talents at our annual Spelling Bee in the Killy Theatre. Events of this nature always bring out the competitive side of any spelling aficionado, especially when valuable interhouse points are at stake. It must be mentioned, however, that the number of expulsions from the area reached an all-time high, with some students being asked to leave more times than their house has interhouse points (Ted S).

Though tempted by the myriad opportunities to falter in their moral compasses and take advantage of the (often incorrect) answers being mouthed by the audience, three valiant literary heroes persevered, reigning victorious over their peers. Congratulations to Liam B (9), Angie K (10), and Jupmann K (11) for their superior performances, with a special mention to all Grade 9 competitors for what must have been the fiercest round of spelling in all of Brentwood’s history.

A remark must also be made about Juan Q, who offered his services as former champion in the form of a “Challenge the Champion” event. He was bested by some of this year’s new competitors. A for effort Juan, A for effort.

Many thanks to all of the competitors, House Captains, announcers, and security detail (the burly sports captains and their fearless leader, Yasyf M) as well as Mrs. Reynolds for organizing the event.
