Leaving what felt like an endless pile of snow, 48 Brentwood rowers and coaches went down to sunny Newport Beach for a sunny escape at the beginning of the March Break. After landing at John Wayne Airport in Orange County the rowers went straight to the Newport Aquatic Center boathouse where our shells had been delivered by Mr. Featherstone. Everyone was quick to unload and rig all the boats.  After everything was squared away at the course, we went back to the hotel to freshen up for dinner. After a small walk on the beach before dinner everyone headed to The Old Spaghetti Factory for a big meal. With tired eyes and full bellies, everyone headed back to the hotel to catch some sleep before their first big day of training.  With two or three practices a day for every crew a good night’s sleep was very important, so instead of being in a hotel the full week the rowers were given the opportunity to billet with some of the NAC rowers. Luckily, all the rowers got a good night sleep on Friday night and Saturday. Most billets also showed their Canadians a bit of southern California. So, from a trip to the beach for some or a sunny boat ride for others, everyone got a little bit of the California experience.  Then we all took the day off on Monday to go to Disneyland!   With many kilometers under everyone's belt and an experience of a lifetime for all, the Brentwood rowing club made many strides and improvements as a club. The 2017 California spring training camp was a success, and the rowers are excited to show that off at the upcoming Brentwood Regatta. Emma H, Allard ‘18
