A Steady Diet of Technology

19 November 2013
Elizabeth Wolfe
This past Tuesday we began our Lunch & Learn series. These in-house professional development sessions are available to any Brentwood employee and are offered here on campus under the lively instruction of our Director of Technology, Brent Lee. A seasoned instructor, Mr. Lee has previously taught applied computer science, health informatics, and digital literacy courses at Vancouver Island University for 10 years. For the upcoming year, we will be meeting four times a month during our lunch hour to present our computing dilemmas, large and small. In this relaxed group setting, dialogue and discussion will predominate as we uncover solutions serving all of our departments. At the individual level, improved technical literacy and confidence are the desired long-term outcomes. Our initial meeting included a skills assessment to facilitate the development of programs for beginner, intermediate, and advanced users. We also brainstormed topics for future sessions including wireless networking, cloud computing, and the paradoxical perils of either using or abstaining from Facebook. As the School continues to evolve its technology profile, we are very excited about this opportunity to dine on a rich menu of classic computing skills and cutting edge innovations.
