The activity on the tennis courts started early in the year and continued non-stop until June. In September, the dedicated players competed in the Fall Classic Tournament with the boys’ doubles team of Nick McLean and Christopher Chan teaming up to take top honors. This also marked the start of the famous tennis barbeque season.  As the winter rains arrived, the tennis players moved off campus to the indoor tennis courts at Arbutus Ridge under the “bubble”. A smaller group worked throughout the winter term, with a highlight being the Indoor Challenge Tournament. Once again, the boy’s doubles team rose to the top. An unprecedented run of warm sunny weather in February permitted the players to return to the outdoor Brentwood courts. This was a welcome change for the players and led straight into the competitive third term. The team has been extremely busy playing and hosting tournaments. First up was the Spring Invitational with teams from Terry Fox, SMUS, Shawnigan, and Brentwood. The famous tennis barbequers upped their game this term with Mrs. Martin serving up the deluxe grilled cheese sandwich and Mr. McLean producing masterful creations from the grill. At the ISA championships, the team continued to perform well with the boys winning the silver medal and the girls placing high, plus another great barbeque. From there, the team headed to the Vancouver Island Tennis Championships where they narrowly lost in the finals but claimed a berth at the Provincial Tennis Championships. Meanwhile, the Angus/Porter Cup Tournament was being played to crown the top Senior Girl and Boy. As well, an all-time high number of students participated in tennis, with many beginning to learn the game, some preparing themselves for the Country Club, and others practicing hard as they compete for the school team. Tennis is known as the “sport of a lifetime”. There have been lots of smiles, many laughs and good memories at the tennis courts this year. Marci McLean, Head Coach
