A Midsummer Night’s Dream

11 April 2015

Hermia loves Lysander, Lysander loves Hermia, Demetrius loves Hermia, Helena loves Demetrius and nobody loves Helena. It’s the summer of ’69, an era of free love, psychedelic drugs and overly complex love triangles. Throw in some fairies, some magic, some intellectually challenged tradesmen trying to make it on stage and you’ve arrived at “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, a true ‘comedy of errors’ that 420 years later will still be just ‘as you like it’. Mrs. Quinton and her cast of royals, lovers, tradesmen and fairies take on one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies. Despite Shakespeare’s usual tendency to put high school audiences to sleep, this 1960’s adaptation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is upbeat and full of laughs. From Helena’s (Andrea D-J) self-pitying tirades to Bottom’s (Fischer W) outrageous singing, the cacophony of it all will keep you highly entertained. The cast of 19 senior students have enjoyed the rehearsal process and look forward to bringing Shakespeare’s comic vision to life. You won’t want to miss this over-the-top production of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” reimagined. The production runs from April 15-18th, curtain 7:30, tickets ($10.00) available at the door or reserved online: tgb.brentwood.bc.ca Be there or be square. Graydon Clark aka Lysander
