A Family Affair

This past weekend, the Senior Girls Volleyball team, recently crowned Island AA Champions (for the 9th time in the past dozen years) were in Vanderhoof competing in the BC tournament. The squad is led by long-time coach and mentor, Ms Jill Fougner, known affectionately to her players as Fogs. Ms Fougner’s Island Championship was not the only athletic accomplishment in her family that weekend. In fact, it was only one of five. Reece FR, Allard ’20, despite her youth, was a setter on the senior team which won Islands on Saturday. On Sunday, Reece joined her Vancouver Island Wave U15 teammates in winning the BC Soccer Premier League Championships in Vancouver with a 3-1 victory over Coquitlam and then departed three days later for the November Nights College ID Soccer Tournament in Carlsbad, California where her team went undefeated. On Tuesday, Griffin FR, Ellis ’18 and two time Captain of Senior Boys Soccer, led his team to the provincial championships where they finished a school-best 5th with a 4-1 record. Griffin was also named to the Commissioner’s First 11. With school volleyball and boys’ soccer wrapped up for the year, Jill will move to the club volleyball season, Reece to train with the Senior Girls Soccer team, and Griffin will prepare with the Senior Boys Rugby squad. Ability and versatility abound.
