A Day of First Aid

One, and two, and three, and four, and five, and six, and seven, and eight, and nine, and ten!

And repeat.

That’s just one-third of the CPR process that Grade 10 students learned on Saturday’s alternate academic day. These students spent their morning - and early afternoon - taking a Red Cross First Aid course, where they learned how to deal with numerous medical emergencies in the case that there are no paramedics at the scene.

From administering an EpiPen to tying a tourniquet, students underwent hands-on training for how to respond to and treat a patient suffering from any emergency - all while masked, of course! Whether they were infants dummy models or their own peers, these 10s tried it all.

Despite being faced with a tough day of non-stop training, students took solace in the social aspect of the training in their cohort groups. The day ended with a test, landing each student with First Aid certification.

So the next time you’ve got a medical emergency, you can count on a Grade 10 to know what to do!
