A Concert For A Summer's Eve 2017

1 June 2017
Mr. Phil Newns
June 8th and 9th @ 7.30 p.m. T. Gil Bunch Theatre for the Performing Arts - theatre.brentwood.bc.ca Our musical year is almost over, but our musicians are excited to show you the fruits of their labour, and what a fruitful year it has been. Four of our ensembles have received invitations to the nationals, Musicfest Canada. To put that in perspective, in order to receive an invitation, these ensembles have to attain an excellent or a superior rating in one of the qualifying regional festivals. Congratulations to our Wind Ensemble, String Ensemble, Jazz Band and Vocal Ensemble for earning this outstanding honour. Plans are now underway for us to attend the nationals in Toronto in May 2018. The spotlight will also shine on our Guitar Ensemble which received top honours in the recent Victoria Festival for the Performing Arts and were selected to perform at the Highlights Gala Concert. Our Composition Rock Band will also perform, and they have recently returned from the Woodshop recording studio north of Duncan where they recorded 3 originals songs, a taste of which you will hear at our upcoming concert. Our bi-annual music department concerts on the Brentwood stage also include some of our outstanding vocalists and instrumentalists. These musicians could easily continue into the professional realm of music if they should so choose. Our vocalists are backed by a professional “house band”, and enhanced by superior sound and lighting skills, courtesy of Don Armitage and his technical crew. This year’s vocal line up includes Sarah F, Andrew W, Holly CH, Sarah R, Lewis J, Kyle VW and Hannah R. Our instrumentalists include Maria & Ben R, and Antonio C & Liam S. You can enjoy these award winning ensembles, vocalists and instrumentalists at our concerts on June the 8th and 9th in the Bunch Theatre. Admission is $10 to the public, and all money raised goes towards our Monday Morning Music Society (formerly the Choirs in Concert Society) a society that funds music therapy programs for special needs kids in the Cowichan Valley, as well as bursaries for special needs graduates from our local public high schools. The show starts at 7.30 p.m. with festival seating. You can book online at theatre.brentwood.bc.ca or call the box office at 250 743 8756. Please come and support our talented young musicians as they raise the final curtain for the 2016 / 2017 school year. Phil Newns, Head of Music
