This past Tuesday, Brentwood had a basketball-filled afteroon with 5 out of our 6 teams playing. Our Senior Boys team played Salt Spring Island, the Junior Boys A team travelled to Kelsey, and the Junior B boys battled against Quamichan. On the girls’ side, our Junior Girls split up to play our neighbours, Duncan Christian and Shawnigan.

It all started at 4:30 when the Senior Boys tipped off against Salt Spring. The game featured amazing team play with some impressive passing by Shaw B, Ellis ‘21. We also saw some great shots by power forward Juan NP, Whittall ‘20. The troops left it all on the court with some tough defence, forcing turnovers. Our boys showed great strength winning 73-25. “The boys played hard D, it was a good way to end the decade,” stated Captain - and my big brother - Juan NP.

Next up, we had the Junior A Boys over at Kelsey for their tipoff. The team came home with a strong result, winning 52-38. “We had a slow start but flipped the switch to start the 4th quarter and went on a 25-0 run” said starter Dylan G, Whittall ‘23.

Next, our Junior B Boys stayed at home and played Quamichan. “The team struggled in the first half but were able to pick it up in the second half to come through with a W,” said one of the team’s point guards, Davis P, Whittall ‘23. The team showed great grit and effort right until the end of the game.

Next up, half of the Junior Girls basketball team headed north to Duncan Christian. There, the girls showed some awesome team play with everyone on the squad getting at least one basket. “Everyone showed great confidence on the court,” stated Assistant Coach Ms Baker. The troops brought home a huge win, 41-11!

The other half of the team stayed at Brentwood to play against Shawnigan in a 7:30 tipoff. The girls got an inspirational talk by Mr Patel which made them come out with a bang right from the start of the game! Safe to say, Shawnigan got a good taste of what our basketball program is all about. The girls had an awesome 53-22 win!

It’s safe to say that our basketball program has a bright future ahead! It was great to have our basketball teams end the decade with five wins! It’s exciting to see what the rest of the season holds.
