5 April 2008

The 2nd XV enjoyed a convincing win (55-5) in their home opener against a big and aggressive Ballenas Secondary squad. The game began with a humbling try by Ballenas and the boys soon realised that they were in a rugby game and not on holidays anymore. The momentum shifted after Russell Miller took the ball up the short side off a ruck and scored under the posts. Sean McCarthy converted the try and his goal kicking was very good throughout the match. As the team's confidence increased, they were able to score a number highlight-reel tries and cruised to a a convincing victory. Players of special mention were: Russell Miller who led the forward pack and captained the side, Alex Gausmen who scored two beautiful tries and showed his strength and speed on offence and defence and Sean McCarthy, who led the way in the center, scoring a try under the posts after selling a brilliant dummy. The coaches were encouraged by the result and look forward to a successful season.
