There were exciting times for field hockey this season; it was possibly the most fun & rewarding fall yet. With three teams & over 60 girls participating in the program, the Second XI became the sandwich between the First XI & the Development team, teaching new players & refining the skills of returning ones. After many practices & games, the team ended up with many draws & wins against tough opposition. The few games lost were done so gracefully with the girls gaining insights on how to improve their personal contribution. As a result, in the final game vs SLS, the girls played as we always knew they could & remained undefeated after three games over the season. With the help of co-coach Ms Ostopovich, the players were exposed to great warm ups & stretches on a consistent basis. This inspired & prepared them to perform well. Natasha was the task-master! The two goalkeepers, Ollie B (MVP) & Sloane J, were consistent & kept the team competitive. In their final year, Jessica P (Co-Captain), Phoebe H, Martha HL & Aranza SG (Captain) exuded calmness & maturity in their play. Grade 8s Lily C & Ella S (MVP) showed the team what could be achieved with many years of learning the skills. Newcomers Antonia M & Emilee N both earned MIP awards for showing extraordinary skill development in such a short season. Experienced players Grace P, Adrienne R & Solveig C helped their teammates with skills & team play, providing encouragement to the newbies while displaying a high level of understanding of the mechanics of the game.  To our beginners, the P twins, Amy & Emily, Alice H, Sophia B, Amelie J, Maya F & Jayden J, we hope you are inspired to play again. It is rewarding as a long-time coach to see the rise of interest in field hockey once again & with a new practice turf at school for us next fall, the girls will have the chance to practice their skills regularly without leaving the school.  Mrs Sue Whitney
