This past weekend, Brentwood hosted eight of the top teams on the Island at the 9th annual “Friendship Cup” Tournament. During pool play, Brentwood finished at the top, undefeated, with convincing wins of 7-1 over Frances Kelsey, 5-0 over Vic High, and 3-0 over powerhouse Mt. Doug. Strong leadership was shown on and off the pitch by Mary Nielsen and Alex Miller Hatton.  Savannah Salas, who is the goal keeper on the 2nd X1, was a wall in net and earned the shut-outs. Cowichan finished on top of the other pool. In the semi-finals, Brentwood beat Lambrick Park 3 – 1 to advance to the finals against Cowichan who defeated Mt. Doug 3-0 in the other semi-final. The Brentwood /Cowichan final was an excellent game of hockey; however, Cowichan was able to capitalise on their scoring opportunities and ended up winning the championship 2-0.  For more information on the tournament and the results, please see the complete report in the Brentwood blog.
