Student Services

Brentwood offers a comprehensive range of student services that include a health centre, health and wellness office, campus store, Holiday Program, laundry facility, and the school dining room.

Our student services centre, Crooks Hall, is a warm, welcoming, West Coast facility which houses our dining room. It is a one-stop social experience where students can eat, relax, socialize, drop by the school store, and hold meetings, dances, coffee houses, and special events. These services and facilities are specifically designed to support our students in their home away from home.

Vacation Program

Families are responsible for organizing travel and accommodation for their children for the major school holidays in December, and at Spring Break.  However, we understand this can prove more difficult for families living at a great distance from Brentwood for the shorter breaks. To address this the school has a Vacation Program which is designed to facilitate the identification of host families for students who live too far away from school to travel home.

Midterm Breaks: The longer midterm breaks provide most of our students the ability to get home. This is not always the case for many international students; for these students, the school often has various trips and activities available at additional cost. Should there be no trips planned the Vacation Program is available.

Short Breaks and Long Weekends: During the shorter breaks and the occasional long weekends offered to our students they are expected to find accommodation with friends and family.  However, the Vacation Program is available for those who need assistance but, If the school is unable to find a host family, the school will remain open and your child will be taken care of here on the campus.

Any questions pertaining to our Vacation Program can be directed to our Deputy Head - Student Life, Liam Sullivan.

Travel Office

The travel manager

Our school travel coordinator arranges each student's reservations for air, bus, and ferry transportation, including drop-off and pick-up at local terminals and appropriate chaperoning. Parents can work directly with the Travel Office when organizing student travel to and from the school.

Laundry

The laundry area

Regular laundry service is provided to all of our boarding students. Each house is assigned a laundry day. The laundry staff, including the seamstress, is always willing to assist students in the care of their clothing. Dry cleaning, major repairs, and alterations of clothing may be arranged through the Laundry Department. The ladies who work in this department have a special spot in the students' hearts and a number of alumni return each year to visit their 'moms away from home.'

Campus Store

Students in the store

The Campus Store stocks a wide selection of school supplies, stationery, and toiletries. Our store also carries school uniform items and the required clothing for sports. All items sold in the store can be charged to parents' accounts. At the beginning of the academic year, during Orientation, the store staff help new students with the selection and fitting of uniforms, sports, and house clothing as well as any items they may need for the beginning of the year.

Health Centre

Nurses at Brentwood

The Maeda Health Centre was opened in 2001. This campus facility provides consultation, counselling, examination and treatment rooms as well as separate male and female accommodation for the observation and care of students who are unwell. Head Nurse, Donna Decker, R.N., leads an experienced team of nurses and is a reassuring, caring figure for students and parents alike.

The Health Centre is supported by our Nurse Practitioner, Robyn Plumsteel, who is able to address all medical needs. Emergency services are provided through the Cowichan District Hospital or the Victoria General Hospital. Athletic injuries are addressed by our Athletic Therapists. The Health Centre arranges appointments to external specialists including dentists, orthodontists, and counsellors. Students may raise health-related or personal issues at any time—in confidence—by speaking to the Head Nurse, the nurses, the Nurse Practitioner, or any member of the faculty.

Food Services

At Brentwood we recognize the importance of good nutrition and how our diet impacts our intellectual performance, physical well-being, and overall quality of life. Under the stewardship of Morgan Milward, Executive Chef and Food Services Manager, and David Sheffield, Assistant Food Services Manager, the Food Services department has changed significantly in recent years. With a dedicated staff of twenty-five, Food Services offers a variety of delicious meals each day while at the same time addressing the needs of students and staff with specific nutritional requirements.
