Andrea Pennells, M.A. (University of Edinburgh, U.K.), M.Ed. (UBC)

After growing up in the Scottish Highlands with summers spent in an Italian hill town, Head of School, Andrea Pennells, graduated summa cum laude in History and English from the University of Edinburgh. A decade later, she completed her Masters in Education from the University of British Columbia, her research focused on adolescent developmental psychology, counselling and curriculum.  Her thirty plus year career as an educator has involved extensive travel with students in Europe and North America, teaching, counselling, and administration.  Joining the Brentwood faculty in 1982, Mrs. Pennells served as a Houseparent, Head of the English Department, Director of Arts and Academics, and Deputy Headmaster (from 1990), before her appointment, after an international search, as Head of School in 2000.  Although very much a people person at work and on her travels, Mrs. Pennells also enjoys hiking, writing and gardening, “far from the madding crowd”.  She is happily married and the proud mother of two tall sons who “take the road less travelled by”.
